Iraq has reiterated its strict rejection of any use of its territory or airspace to launch attacks against neighboring countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, and vowed firm action against those responsible.
According to a statement posted on the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office account on X, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh Al Zaidi chaired the first meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, where officials reviewed the country’s security situation and recent developments.
The council reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to strengthening the readiness and coordination of security agencies to maintain stability across Iraq.
It also condemned recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and the UAE, stressing that Iraq rejects the use of its territory or airspace for aggression against “brotherly Arab states and friendly regional countries.”
The government said it will respond decisively to any violations and formed a special committee to coordinate with relevant authorities in both countries as investigations continue.
Authorities were also instructed to take necessary measures against those found responsible, should Iraqi territory be confirmed as a launch point for the attacks.
The statement emphasized that Iraq will not tolerate any individual or group threatening its security or that of its neighbors, and reiterated its commitment to sovereignty, regional stability, and the rule of law.
It also underscored efforts to strengthen ties with regional and international partners, protect diplomatic missions and foreign companies operating in Iraq, and limit possession of arms to state authorities as part of ongoing security reforms.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier condemned a drone attack launched from Iraqi territory targeting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, where one drone struck an electricity generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
The ministry described the incident as a “criminal terrorist attack” and a violation of sovereignty and international law, urging Iraq to prevent hostile acts originating from its territory and to address such threats in line with its obligations.
It also stressed the importance of Iraq’s role in promoting regional security, noting that a stable and sovereign Iraq remains a key partner in ensuring regional stability.
