A court in Sharjah fined a man Dh3,000 after convicting him for posting insulting remarks and photographs of a woman and her father on social media without their permission.
According to court records, the victim immediately reported the incident to authorities and later told investigators that the posts caused her severe embarrassment and humiliation in front of family members and others who viewed the content online.
She also said she never gave the accused permission to upload her photographs or those of her father.
The woman noted that the incident was especially distressing because she is married to one of the accused’s relatives.
Following the complaint, authorities launched legal proceedings and assigned electronic evidence experts to examine the accused’s social media account.
Investigators recovered the posts linked to the complaint and documented the materials as part of the evidence presented before the court.
During questioning, the accused denied responsibility for the uploads and claimed the woman herself had taken his phone, accessed his account using a password she allegedly knew, and posted the content on her own.
The court rejected the explanation after reviewing the victim’s testimony and the findings of the electronic forensic report.
Authorities said the evidence clearly established the accused’s involvement in the offense.
Despite the conviction, the court noted that the circumstances of the case warranted leniency and imposed a fine of Dh3,000.
