Comedian Chad Kinis, singer Zephanie, and boyband SB19 made it their mission to spread happiness and love to the audience through their highly anticipated performances at the DEC Arena at Expo 2020 Dubai Wednesday night (16 March).
Filipino comedian and YouTube star Kinis kicked off the exciting night with a hysterical stand-up act mixed with upbeat singing and dancing that left audience members laughing out loud.
Speaking ahead of his act, the viral comedian said spreading laughter and hope is especially important as the world continues to deal with the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic and other global challenges.
He said: “Laughing with each other brings happiness in our heart. It brings hope. It connects people, the heart, the mind, the soul. Happiness is contagious and there’s so much trouble in the world. I think comedy and humour brings people together, just like music and other arts can.”
He was followed by nineteen-year-old singer Zephanie – known as The Philippines’ new ‘Pop Princess’ – who enthusiastically took to the stage to perform her popular, original music, including her first song Pangarap Kong Pangarap Mo. The audience sang along as she impressively belted out her best-known hits.
Before going onstage, the artist said: “It’s such a dream come true to be performing at Expo 2020 Dubai, because I think this is the biggest show here in Dubai. It’s a great opportunity for me and I have been really looking forward to this ever since I heard about it. Thank you everyone for supporting the show.”
The night ended with a thrilling performance by Filipino boyband SB19, whose fame has skyrocketed since their debut in 2018. The five-member group – Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin – have garnered international fame and were even nominated for a Billboards Music Award.
Debuting their newest album, Pagsibol – meaning ‘growth’ in English – SB19 had fans cheering and dancing along to the rhythm of the music.
Pablo said: “This is our first overseas event after the pandemic hit and the first time we are going to be performing in front of a live audience since then. The main message we are trying to spread to our audience at Expo 2020 Dubai is that we all need love and we all need to be there for each other to survive these harsh times. We are so happy to have the opportunity to share that message through our show here.”
