Incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte will run as Vice President for the 2022 elections.
In a statement released by his party, Philippine Democratic Party – People’s Power (PDP-Laban), Duterte has formally accepted his party’s endorsement to run for the Philippines’ second-highest post for the upcoming elections.
“President Rodrigo Duterte agreed to make the sacrifice and heed the clamor of the people, and accepted the endorsement of the PDP-Laban part for him to run as Vice President in the 2022 National Elections,” read the statement.
PDP-Laban Executive Vice President Karlo Nograles made the announcement and said that Duterte made the decision following calls from PDP-Laban councils from the regional to the barangay levels saying they want “transition of leadership that will guarantee continuity of the administration’s programs during the past five years.”
Senator Bong Go is expected to be the presidential bet the party.
Go however reiterated that he is not interested for the post.
“I am still not interested. Nakatutok ako sa aking tungkulin bilang Senador upang tulungan ang bansa na malampasan ang krisis na ating hinaharap. Bakuna muna bago pulitika. Mas mabuti unahin niyo na muna yung mga interesado na tumakbong Pangulo,” he said.
