Filipina left ‘permanently impaired’ after being shot in the eye in California

A 19-year-old Filipina was left permanently impaired after she was shot in San Francisco, California last week.

Jessica Dimalanta along with her friends was inside a car at an intersection in San Francisco on March 21 when a group of men exited their vehicle and started shooting.

Aside from Dimalanta, one of her friends was also reportedly hit, while the other three were safe.

She was rushed to UCSF Mission Bay Hospital and was later transferred to San Francisco General Hospital.

According to Dimalanta’s uncle, a bullet struck her face that went straight through her right eye.

The doctors were able to remove the shell, but fragments remain embedded in her face.

She survived the incident but was left permanently impaired and unable to chew.

Dimalanta, who was recently diagnosed with diabetes, tested positive for COVID-19.

Her uncle has set up a fundraiser for her medical bills.

San Francisco Police are investigating the incident which the family described as a hate crime.
