KNOW THE LAW: Up to AED 50,000 fine for private parties of more than 30 individuals on New Year’s Eve

Residents in the UAE have been warned not to organize parties for the upcoming New Year’s Eve, with violators to face heavy fines amounting to thousands of dirhams.

The Dubai Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management stated the organizer of the private party will be fined AED 50,000 (Php 655,000+) while each attendee will be fined AED 15,000 (Php 196,000+).

Authorities remind that social gatherings of over 30 people remain prohibited and that inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with preventive measures. Violators will face legal action and measures.

Those who will hold gatherings should comply with social distancing guidelines and strictly follow the rule of one person per four sq. m. of venue space.

Here’s the official list of preventive guidelines for New Year’s Eve:

-Family gatherings and events organised in tents and homes are allowed to accommodate a maximum of 30 people, subject to compliance with the rule of one person per four square metres of venue space;
-Attendees are required to wear face masks at all times and practice social distancing;
-Elderly people and those with chronic conditions should be advised not to attend these gatherings;
-Any person experiencing symptoms such as coughing or fever must refrain from attending events.

The Committee called on families and members of the community to strictly comply with precautionary measures and avoid gatherings that do not adhere to guidelines.

The Supreme Committee further said the preventive measures are aimed at safeguarding the community’s health and safety, which continue to be the highest priority of the Government of Dubai and frontline entities. The authorities reiterated their complete commitment to protect the safety and well-being of citizens, residents and tourists.
