A Filipina lead robotic nurse was among those recently conferred the Order of the British Empire (OBE) Award by Prince Charles for acts of bravery as first responders to the June 3, 2017 London Bridge as well as the Manchester terror attacks.
Joy Ongcachuy, who has been working at the Royal London Hospital since 2002, hails from Talisayan, Misamis Oriental, Philippines and was specifically cited for her response to the London Bridge terrorist attack.
In a recent post, the Philippine Embassy in the United Kingdom said Ongcachuy was among three OBE recipients.
“One of her friends from her native Philippines had started working at St Bartholomew’s and recommended the trust as a great place to work. Keen to establish a new life for herself and her family in the UK, Joy hopped on a plane with 23 other Filipino nurses and joined The Royal London as a scrub nurse – a role she held until she was promoted last year to robotic lead nurse,” read the Philippine Embassy post,.
“Growing up, Joy always wanted to be a nurse. She loves to look after people and is passionate about providing care to others.”
According to the British national newspaper, Daily Mirror, the OBE is part of the British New Year Honour List 2019, which celebrates heroes – from the 43 responders to terror attacks, Ongcachuy included, to the divers in the widely popular Thai cave rescue.
Ongcachuy’s feat was also published online at CDODev.com, a blog about progress updates and events as well as happenings about Cagayan de Oro City, in Misamis Oriental, and all the municipalities and cities in all other provinces in Northern Mindanao.
