The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that three of the four men in a viral video seeking the help of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte are Filipino technicians who were held captive in Libya by an unidentified armed group on July 6.
In a video posted by The Libya Observer, three men identified themselves as Filipinos while another man identified himself as a Korean national.
They are sharing a bottle of water before speaking one-by-one for their plea to be rescued.
“Mr. President, please help us. We don’t have anything. We don’t have food. We don’t have medicine. Please help us, we are already suffering,” one of the Filipino men pleaded.
In the video, men carrying firearms are seen behind the captives.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Elmer Cato confirmed that the three men who identified themselves as Filipinos in the video are the same men who were abducted while working at a water plant in south eastern Libya last month.
“We have seen the video, and the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli confirmed that indeed ‘yong tatlong lalaki na nandoon sa video were the three Filipino technicians kidnapped last month,” Cato told reporters.
Cato assured the public that the government is doing its best to rescue the kidnapped Filipinos in the North African country.
