The Ajman Public Transportation Corporation (APTC) has rolled out a Dh2.5 increase in taxi fares.
In the new scheme, Dh2.50 will be added to passengers’ total taxi fare at the end of their journey.
The fare hike, which came into effect on April 1, has been designed based on surveys conducted to meet the needs of the Ajman community, an official from APTC said in an interview with the Khaleej Times.
The said official added that even with the increase, the cab fare in Ajman is still the lowest compared to that of other emirates.
He also added that the fare hike will help improve taxi service and improve customer satisfaction, in addition to helping cab drivers with their income.
The move has been well-received by cabbies in Ajman, who have been complaining about their meager income.
Meanwhile, news of the fare hike has garnered mixed reactions among Ajman residents, with some of them even describing the move as an “added burden”.
