Malacañang confirmed Monday that President Rodrigo Duterte and his chief aid, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, have discussed the latter’s possible run for Senate.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that Duterte has opened the idea for Go to run for a seat in the Senate next elections.
“I understand the President has broached it to SAP (Special Assistant to the President) Go and it is something that they are discussing between the two of them,” Roque said at a press briefing.
Earlier, Duterte said that Go’s appearance at the Senate inquiry on the issue of frigate acquisition project of the Philippine Navy could be his entryway for Senate.
Go, meanwhile, responded with promises to not run to become a senator and to only serve Duterte until his last breath.
Go had also previously said that he will only run if the President wants him to.
“The position of SAP Go is he will heed whatever the President wishes him to do. He has said that personally he would not run but if the President asks him to he will,” Roque said.
Another politician, Manny Piñol, also believes that Go will be able to book a seat in the Top 5 should he decide to run as a senator.
