The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong advised Filipinos there to keep themselves flu-free amid the recent influenza outbreak that already killed 149 people since the start of the winter season.
The consulate urged Filipino workers, especially those who take care of kids and the elderly, to strengthen their immune system and wear face masks to avoid contracting the disease, brought by the extreme cold weather. The consulate also recommends to Filipinos who will visit Hong Kong for the Chinese New Year to bring winter clothes and stay away from crowded areas, according to GMA News.
Three hundred ninety-eight outbreaks of flu have been registered across the city since January 7, wherein around 203 adults and 12 children have developed severe complications after being infected, according to a report in the South China Morning Post
The flu outbreak severely affected kindergartens and primary schools, prompting the Hong Kong Education Bureau to shut them down to avoid further spreading of the disease and allot more time for cleaning and disinfecting school premises.
