A Dubai expat never lost her heart that one day she’d be reunited with her dog.
After four years of her search, Amen (the expat) was pleased to see her dog back into her arms, through the help of K9 Friends, an organization that provides shelter for rescued dogs in Dubai.
The reunion was made possible when K9 posted on their Facebook a picture of ‘Dusty’, a dog given to them by the Dubai Municipality four months ago.
“Almen never gave up hope that one day her dog would return to her, but despite extensive searches there was no sign of him,” K9 friends posted on their page.
Upon seeing the K9 Facebook post, Almen immediately reached out to the organization to confirm the dog’s identity, and was delighted that it was indeed her long lost pet she used to call Rikky.
“The microchip numbers matched and when the two were reunited there was no doubt that Rikky/Dusty remembered his owner,” Khaleej Times quoted K9 Friends on their Facebook page.
The reunion reminds every pet owner to always look after their dogs; here are a few steps that you can do, according to Expat Echo Dubai:
1. Microchip your pet and keep that information up to date.
2. Even if chipped, have your pet wear a collar with an ID tag and license tag. Make sure the license contact information is kept current.
3. Distribute your lost pet posters and hang them on posts over a wide area. Put notices up in the supermarkets and in schools/clubs etc Animals can travel further than you think, especially when they’re frightened and confused.
4. While you’re canvassing for your pet, call her name often. She may be hiding, but is likely to come out when she hears your voice.
5. Contact Dubai Municipality Veterinary Section to let them know your pet is missing. Confirm they have your current phone number to contact you. Have this telephone number programmed into your mobile phone.
6. Visit all shelters around the area such as K9 Friends, and Feline Friends.
