Palace says Vince Dizon already cleared in 2019 SEA Games case

Malacañang on Thursday said Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon had already been investigated and cleared of allegations related to infrastructure projects for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro issued the clarification after Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano pointed to Dizon’s previous role as president and chief executive officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, which oversaw the development of facilities in New Clark City for the regional sporting event.

Castro said records show the complaints against Dizon, including allegations involving the procurement of SEA Games infrastructure and the controversial P50-million cauldron, had already been dismissed.

“As far as Secretary Vince Dizon is concerned, there are records showing that he was cleared and the case against him was dismissed,” Castro said.

She added that, to her knowledge, Cayetano himself was not investigated over the issue and was allegedly cleared by former President Rodrigo Duterte before any formal investigation was conducted.

The Palace’s remarks came after the National Bureau of Investigation announced plans to investigate alleged irregularities involving facilities built for the 2019 SEA Games in New Clark City.
