President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday appointed Dr. Jose Pujalte Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH), succeeding Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa.
Pujalte’s appointment comes after Herbosa resigned from the post following a period of sick leave for knee replacement surgery.
A career official in the health sector, Pujalte has served in the DOH since 1991. He was appointed Medical Center Chief II of the Philippine Orthopedic Center in 2014.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and later obtained a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
Pujalte previously served as president of the Philippine Orthopedic Association and the ASEAN Orthopedic Association. He is also the founding president of the Philippine Shoulder Society and a founding member of the Philippine Spine Society.
