Senate impeachment court subpoenas Zuleika Lopez

The Senate impeachment court has issued a subpoena ordering Office of the Vice President Chief of Staff Zuleika Lopez to testify in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol said Thursday that a subpoena ad testificandum was issued directing Lopez to appear before the impeachment court on July 13 and 14 at 2 p.m.

Tongol said the subpoena has already been received by the Central Records Unit of the Office of the Vice President.

Earlier, Lopez went to the Senate to meet with Senate Secretary and impeachment court Clerk of Court Renato Bantug Jr..

During Wednesday’s impeachment proceedings, the court viewed portions of Lopez’s online press conference in which she became emotional after being cited in contempt by the House of Representatives during its investigation into the alleged misuse of confidential funds when Duterte was still Education secretary.

The defense earlier acknowledged before the impeachment court that Lopez’s transfer to the Women’s Correctional Facility prompted Duterte’s controversial remarks against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which are the subject of one of the Articles of Impeachment.
