Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte paid tribute to his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, on Father’s Day, describing him as a parent who demonstrated love through sacrifice and resilience.
In a social media post, the lawmaker said he and his family learned important lessons from the former president’s example and the sacrifices he made throughout his life.
“Growing up, we learned a lot about life because of your example, Dad. Not because of the words you said, but because of the sacrifices you made,” Duterte said.
He described fathers as the first defenders of their families, often choosing to endure hardship and make personal sacrifices for the welfare of their children.
Paolo Duterte said he now better understands the responsibilities that come with fatherhood, adding that genuine love is shown through actions, decisions, and a willingness to face challenges.
Addressing his father directly, he said their gratitude and love remain unchanged despite the difficulties the former president is currently facing.
“Dad, no matter what challenges you may be facing right now, one thing never changes—our gratitude and love for you as a father,” he said.
The congressman also extended Father’s Day greetings to fathers everywhere, thanking them for the sacrifices they make for their families.
“You are the silent heroes of every home,” Duterte said.
Former president Duterte is currently facing proceedings before the International Criminal Court over allegations linked to his administration’s anti-drug campaign.
