Dubai Customs said its intelligence-sharing efforts helped authorities in an African country intercept a shipment containing around 1.332 tons of Tapentadol tablets, preventing the narcotics from reaching illegal markets.
According to the agency, the consignment originated in Asia and was transported by air cargo. The shipment was seized after Dubai Customs provided intelligence to relevant authorities in the destination country.
Officials said the operation highlights the importance of international customs cooperation and intelligence exchange in disrupting cross-border smuggling networks and organized crime.
Dubai Customs said the seizure reflects its commitment to enhancing global security through close collaboration with international partners, including Interpol, the World Customs Organization, regional intelligence networks and customs administrations worldwide.
The agency’s Customs Intelligence Department and Special Task Force continue to monitor and analyze operational, commercial and logistical data to detect suspicious activities and prevent smuggling attempts.
Dubai Customs added that it has strengthened its enforcement capabilities through investments in advanced inspection technologies, including radiographic scanning systems, artificial intelligence-powered image analysis and other detection tools aimed at facilitating legitimate trade while improving screening accuracy.
Dubai Customs Director-General Dr. Abdulla Busenad said the successful operation demonstrates Dubai’s role as a trusted partner in international security efforts, emphasizing the importance of advanced technology, skilled personnel and global cooperation in combating transnational crime.
Officials also cited continuous training, real-time data analysis and smart risk engines as key factors in identifying threats and enhancing enforcement capabilities.
Authorities from the African country involved in the operation expressed appreciation for Dubai Customs’ intelligence support, describing it as crucial to the successful interception of the shipment.
