The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has begun advancing a policy framework aimed at strengthening support, protection, and access to essential services for overseas Filipino workers living with HIV.
The initiative was discussed during a roundtable meeting on June 15 involving the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC), government agencies, civil society organizations, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
According to the DMW, the proposed framework seeks to address gaps in existing HIV-related programs and services affecting migrant workers.
The agency said the policy would help provide more responsive healthcare support, clearer assistance pathways, and stronger protection mechanisms for overseas workers living with HIV throughout their migration journey.
Participants in the discussions presented policy recommendations aimed at improving access to services while ensuring that affected workers are treated with dignity and respect.
Stakeholders also emphasized the importance of stronger coordination and accountability among government agencies to make services more accessible and responsive to the needs of migrant workers living with HIV.
The DMW said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to protect the health, welfare, and rights of overseas Filipino workers.
Officials added that the proposed framework seeks to foster a more supportive environment where affected workers can access assistance confidently and without fear of discrimination.
