Dubai Police has warned the public against relying on unverified information circulating online, saying the spread of inaccurate content could threaten community safety and stability.
In an advisory posted on social media, Dubai Police said the rapid flow of information in today’s digital age makes it easier for misinformation to spread and create fear and anxiety among the public.
Officials said some content is deliberately shared to cause panic in the community.
“What we share matters,” the police said. “Relying on unverified sources can cause unnecessary panic and may undermine the safety and stability of our community.”
The force urged residents to verify information before sharing it and to rely only on official sources when checking news and updates.
According to Dubai Police, individuals play an important role in preventing the spread of rumours and misinformation online.
“To help protect your safety and the safety of others, we encourage everyone to rely on official sources and act responsibly when sharing information online,” the advisory said.
Meanwhile, the UAE Public Prosecution warned that social media users who repost or circulate rumours from unknown sources may face legal action under the country’s laws.
The Public Prosecution said legal consequences apply not only to those who create false information, but also to those who share unverified posts online.
