The Ras Al Khaimah Police announced on Friday that 25-year-old Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq bin Kayed Al Qasimi, a member of Ras Al Khaimah’s royal family, died in a motorbike accident on Friday night.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, were among those who performed a funeral prayer at the Sheikh Zayed mosque yesterday, according to a Khaleej Times report.
It added that Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain; Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah; Sheikh Saqr bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi; and Sheikh Tariq bin Kayed Al Qasimi, along with a large number of nationals and residents, also took part in the prayer.
Staff Col Yousef S.Y. Al Zaabi, director of Special Forces at the RAK Police, said they were shocked about the tragic crash which took place on the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road.
“He could not avoid colliding with the car that jumped in front of him,” Khaleej Times quoted Staff Col Al Zaabi as saying.
The funeral prayer was held yesterday at Sheikh Zayed Mosque where a Dhuhr prayer was offered.
His remains was buried at Al Qawasem Cemetery in Ras Al Khaimah.
The sheikh will be best remembered as the first one to win the gold medal for jujitsu in 2016.
