Pinoy in HK who went sailing with employer drowns

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Hong Kong reportedly drowned while on a sailing trip with his employer last Saturday, Nov. 23.

Hong Kong News, citing a spokesman from the Police Public Relations Bureau, reported that the 48-year-old OFW accidentally went overboard as they were sailing from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in Causeway Bay to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Kowloon.

One of his companions tried to save him and a passing boat eventually took them out of the water, reports said.

The Filipino was unconscious when he was transported to the Ruttonjee Hospital. He was later on declared dead at 4:52 p.m.

An official from the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) there, said the OFW was from Pampanga.

He had prepared a birthday party that day for his child who is living with his partner, another OFW in Hong Kong.

The OFW, who was on his second contract with his employer, was allowed by his employer to live at his home.
