The Ajman Civil Defense has warned the public that fake electric wires and sub-standard wiring of AC connections have been the main causes of fires since the beginning of summer.
Ajman Civil Defense Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Raed Obaid Al Zaabi furthered that apart from the aforementioned causes, short circuits and electric network overloading have also begun blazes in residential and commercial establishments in the country.
Al Zaabi urged the public to maintain ACs properly by contacting experts and specialized technicians to handle their AC problems to avoid accidental fires.
What you can do during fires
Safety should be a priority, as per Al Zaabi who stressed that evacuating the house should be the first thing to do during a fire. “Heavy smoke may cause people to faint, or could even be fatal,” said Al Zaabi as per a report from Khaleej Times.
He also furthered that fire extinguishers should only be operated on two conditions: An adult should be familiar with using one and the power should be disconnected.
As summer progresses, Al Zaabi likewise urged the public to ensure that their ACs are in optimal working conditions and to turn off any electrical connections when leaving the house.
The Ajman Civil Defense Deputy Director also advised parents to tell their kids to unplug their phone charges and other electrical devices especially before sleeping to avoid any further hazards.
