Cancer patient wins P50-M lotto

Months ago, a 65-year old woman came knocking at the door of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to seek help for her to pay expenses for her chemotherapy.

She had papers to prove she was diagnosed with  nasopharyngeal cancer, a type of head and neck cancer.

This week, she came back not to request for more aid but a small piece of paper — a lotto ticket that hit the P50.3 million  jackpot.

A “lucky pick” or computer-generated number from an outlet near Our Lady of Remedios Church in Balacaran, Paranaque pulled the winning combination 35-38-09-17-10-15 and made her instant millionaire .

“Hindi niya akalain na mananalo at magkukubra sya ng cheke ng panalo sa PCSO [He never thought he would win the prize from the PCSO],”  PCSO general manager Royina Marzan-Garma  told the reporters.

Garma said the Cavite-based winner would use the money for her cancer treatment and to help her family.

Ten other bettors won P70,000 each for guessing five of the winning numbers.
