The Health Department has recorded 169 cases of meningococcemia in 2019, up by 4 percent compared to the previous year.
DOH Epidemiology Bureau OIC Dr. Ferchito Avelino told GMA News that health officials immediately traced the people whom meningococcemia victims had contact with.
Studies showed that found that five out of 10 meningococcemia cases end in death if not treated immediately.
The vaccine on meningococcemia is also not availablr in the current vaccination program.
Four cases of meningococcemia cases were confirmed in Batangas, all of them resulted into deaths.
