Bangladeshi husband suspected of killing Filipina wife remains at large

The husband of a Filipina domestic worker is still at large after killing his wife last year.

Jonalyn Alvarez Raviz was found dead in an open field along Tampines Road on September 6, 2018.

The 34-year-old’s body was found with a ligature around her neck which had been tied to a small tree causing her death, according to investigation officer Desmond Ng.

Raju Dhaly , the Bangladeshi husband of Raviz, is now the prime suspect of the crime, according to the State Coroner.

Dhaly reportedly left Singapore to Dhaka, Bangladesh on September 3, 2018, three before after the body of Raviz was found.

The suspect remains at large after the state coroner issued a warrant against Dhaly who suddenly left the country without any explanation.

According The Straits Times, based on the CCTV footage that was played in court, a Filipina was seen leaving on her employer’s Pasir Ris flat around 8:30 am on September 2, 2018 and was last seen at Pasir Ris Bus Interchange with her husband around 9am.

According to State Coroner Kamala Ponnampalam, the couple spent the whole day together. They were seen boarding a public bus to Tampines Road.

“Ms Raviz was found to have alighted at the bus stop along Tampines Road, before the Defu Lane 2, at 4:17pm” State Coroner Kamala said.

Around 5pm, Raju took a taxi from Defu Lane 1 to his dormitory in Jalan Papan near Jurong Port Road and left his dormitory later that evening. He bought a ticket to Bangladesh and left Singapore around 5:30 am the next day.

Three days after Raju left, Raviz’s employer made a missing person report and later her body was found lifeless.

The State Coroner said Raviz’s told her employers that she is no longer happy with her husband and planning to leave him because Dhaly was abusive and sometimes took away the victim’s salary. She also found out Dhaly’s infidelty.

It added that the Filipina worker also divulged that she was threatened by his husband on June last year if she will leave him.
