UAE announces new job classification system in private sector

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) on Monday, September 10, announced a new job classification system in the private sector.

Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli, Minister of MOHRE, issued the new system of classification, called the Emirati Vocational Classification, which will replace the existing classification scheme with around 3,000 professions established in 1998.

“The new professional classification comes under MOHRE’s commitment to achieve strategic objectives and see the future government in accordance with its role of achieving optimal human resources in the UAE,” MOHRE said.

The new scheme has nine professional categories with 726 job titles, in accordance with the International Standard Classification of Occupations.

Expats can only apply for a work permit with a job title from the new list. However, those who already hold employment residence permits with job titles that are not included in the new list need not change their title when they renew their employment contracts.

The new job classification will soon be implemented, according to the statement of MOHRE.
