Sotto ready to be replaced anytime as Senate President

Newly-elected Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said he is ready to leave his post as head of Upper Chamber if majority of the senators want him ousted.

Less than a week into his position as Senate President, Sotto said he trusts the decision of the members of the majority should they decide to replace him.

“I’m ready. Ready to be replaced anytime. I’m willing to give it to anybody else who would be chosen by the members of the Senate,” Sotto said.

“The leadership of the Senate lies in the trust and confidence of the members of the majority,” he added.

On May 21, Sotto replaced Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as Senate President after a resolution signed by 16 senators surfaced seeking for a reorganization in the Upper Chamber.

Earlier, Pimentel wished Sotto good luck and made his support known by saying the new Senate President has managed to solve issues within the Upper Chamber before.

“My nominee is an institution in the Senate,” said Pimentel during the plenary session. “He has been there and [has] done that in his long career in the Senate.”
