Meet Pinay from Batangas who serves in US Navy’s “airport at sea”

A Filipina from Sto. Tomas, Batangas currently serves as one of the crew of the US Navy’s 1,100-foot aircraft carrier on sea.

Airman April Pagulayan is an aviation boatswain’s mate operating aboard aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.

According to Pagulayan, as posted in US Navy’s website, she uses the lessons she learned from her parents and her hometown to carry out her tasks as a crew of the ship and leader of multiple people.

“I will never forget the lessons from my parents,” said Pagulayan.

“The morals they taught me, like my dad taught me no matter what your job, give it a hundred percent.”

She added that although it is hard to be away from home, she is not giving up on her dream.

“I’m most proud of being strong enough, this being the first time I’m away from home, and never giving up on my dreams,” said Pagulayan.

Pagulayan works with approximately 3,200 crew members and another 2,500 men and women on the air wing who fly and maintain more than 70 aircraft aboard the ship.

Pagulayan finished her studies at the De La Salle Lipa University in 2009.
