WATCH: Dubai Police reiterates traffic rules in video

In a bid to urge citizens to comply to the UAE’s traffic rules, Dubai Police released a short film that shows a happy family vacations can result in as much as Dh4,200 fine if drivers and passengers violate road safety measures.

The 60-second film, featuring an Emirati family, showed multiple violations that families can commit, such as failure to seat child in appropriate seat (Dh400 fine); seating children under 10 years in front deat (Dh400 fine); being distracted on road (Dh800 fine; 4 black points); failure to fasten seatbelt (Dh400 fine; 4 black points); sudden swerving (Dh1,000 fine; 4 black points); and using handheld mobile phone (Dh800; 4 black points).

The film was released weeks after the UAE rolled out stiffer rules and fines on road traffic violations.

The UAE’s amended federal traffic law was implemented on July 1 to improve road safety and reduce the number of road fatalities.

Amendments include changes in fines for overspeeding and period of confiscation of vehicles.

In 2016, 725 people were killed in traffic accidents, an increase from 675 in the previous year.
