The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned what it described as an “unprovoked terrorist attack” targeting an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack involved a drone that entered the country’s airspace from the western border direction. Authorities said the incident caused no injuries and did not affect radiation safety levels at the nuclear facility.
In a statement, the ministry described the incident as a “dangerous escalation,” an “unacceptable act of aggression,” and a direct threat to the country’s security.
The UAE stressed that targeting peaceful nuclear energy facilities is a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and humanitarian law due to the potential risks posed to civilians, the environment, and regional and international security.
The ministry also highlighted that international agreements and standards, including principles and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, emphasize the protection and security of peaceful nuclear facilities against hostile acts and military threats.
The UAE said it would not tolerate any threat to its sovereignty and national security, adding that it reserves the right to respond through diplomatic and military means in accordance with international law.
The ministry further reiterated that attacks targeting civilian and vital infrastructure are condemned under international legal and humanitarian norms and called for an immediate halt to such hostilities.
