NMP cuts maritime training fee to boost access for Filipino seafarers

The National Maritime Polytechnic has reduced the training fee for its Training Course for Assessors to make maritime education more accessible.

Effective May 1, 2026, the fee has been lowered from ₱11,400 to ₱8,000, marking nearly a 30% reduction.

The 10-day course is designed to train maritime assessors in evaluating the competence of seafarers based on international standards under the STCW framework.

Officials said the initiative aims to expand access to quality training and strengthen the livelihood opportunities of Filipino maritime professionals.

NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario said the move is part of efforts to promote inclusive access to world-class training and support professional development in the maritime sector.

The agency expects the reduced cost to encourage more Filipino seafarers to enroll and enhance their global competitiveness.
