PNP awaits warrant to arrest Marcoleta

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is prepared to serve an arrest warrant against Senator Rodante Marcoleta once it is issued by the Sandiganbayan.

PNP Public Information Office chief Colonel Allen Rae Co said the police have finalized their protocols and procedures for the possible arrest of the senator.

Co said that if the warrant is issued while Marcoleta is inside the Senate premises, the PNP will coordinate with the Senate leadership before carrying out the arrest.

Earlier on Friday, the Office of the Ombudsman filed a plunder case against Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan over the alleged failure to declare P75 million in campaign contributions in his Statement of Campaign Expenditures during the 2025 senatorial elections.

The PNP said the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) is the unit responsible for serving warrants of arrest, consistent with previous high-profile cases.

Meanwhile, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the public should wait for the official issuance of the arrest warrant by the Sandiganbayan.

Under standard police procedures, an arrested suspect is brought to the PNP-CIDG headquarters at Camp Crame for booking, fingerprinting, a medical examination, and the taking of mug shots before being presented before the Sandiganbayan for the return of the warrant.
