The Philippine government will initiate diplomatic talks with Iran to ensure the safe passage of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route.
Malacañang said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Foreign Affairs to engage Iranian officials as tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt supply chains.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, carries around 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas shipments, making it a key chokepoint for global energy flows.
Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to secure fuel supply and prevent disruptions, as the government also explores alternative sources of petroleum products from other countries.
Authorities emphasized that diplomatic engagement remains crucial in maintaining stable energy supply amid ongoing global uncertainty.
