12-year-old girl rushed to hospital after ‘creative costume’ catches fire

A Grade 7 student of Holy Cross College in Davao City sustained burns after her “creative” costume, which was made of abaca, caught fire from a burning candle.

The incident took place during her school’s intramurals. The girl suffered severe burns in different parts of her body.

She was wrapped by a wet cloth by her teachers when her costume went on fire.

The student is their class’ representative in their school’s sports festival.

Aside from the student, her two teachers also suffered minor burns as they helped put out the fire.

She was immediately brought to the Southern Philippine Medical Center in Davao City.

The school has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. (TN)
