Doctor: COVID-19 cannot be passed on by breastfeeding

A pediatrician assured that there is no scientific basis to confirm that the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 can be passed on through breastfeeding.

Pediatrician Donna Capolilo told GMA News that breast milk is still completely safe.

“Napaka-safe ng breast milk para kay baby dahil sabi nga natin yan ang unang bakuna ni baby,” she said.

The doctor said that breast milk has rich antibodies that can help a baby fight infection.

If a mother manifests flu-like symptoms, she should practice health etiquette so that the baby can be protected.

Pwedeng magpasuso parin si mommy kahit may ubo at sipon pero si nanay kailangan pa rin mag-practice ng respiratory hygiene gaya ng pagsuot ng face mask at cough etiquette,” the doctor said.

The country has now 3,094 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines. Around 15 of those cases involve minors.
