DUBAI: Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Bahrain have been receiving fair treatment. This was assured following a recent meeting between the country’s prime minister, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and Ambassador Alfonso Ver, head of the Philippine mission to the Arab state.

In that meeting, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa expressed his sincerest commitment to ensure the protection of the rights of OFWs in the kingdom.

He also said that while all expatriates are welcome to the kingdom, he particularly loves Filipinos as he knows they are hardworking, committed to their jobs, and are efficient in what they do.

“This meeting is the best assurance that the Prime Minister appreciates and acknowledges the role of Filipinos as contributors to the country’s development. To have the highest leader of the country give an audience to us just to personally express his keenness to provide every care for OFWs here is an honor,” Ver told The Filipino Times in an overseas interview from Dubai.

Ver said that while there may be minor problems, his office, in cooperation with Bahrain’s government agencies, make it easy to resolve such challenges. Ver also expressed gratitude to Bahrain for welcoming Filipino workers.

There are approximately 21,000 Filipinos working in Bahrain, according to statistics from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).  (Neil Bie)
