World’s tallest Ferris wheel, Ain Dubai, to open in 2020

Dubai is surely setting the stage for the world to see its towering achievements as the world’s tallest observation wheel, Ain Dubai, is set to open right before the festivities of Expo 2020 begins.

Meraas, the developer of Ain Dubai, reports that the last of the permanent spoke cables has been installed as the construction continues. And while no launch dates has been officially revealed yet, reports mention that Ain Dubai is expected to open before October 2020.

Towering over 250 metres tall at the Bluewaters Island near JBR, Ain Dubai is more than 80 metres taller than Las Vegas’ High Roller, that stands 167 metres and is the current world record holder.  And when compared to the London Eye that ranks third place at 135 metres, Ain Dubai is almost double the height.

With a capacity of 1,900 people, Ain Dubai will carry 48 passenger capsules. The wheel stretches out 2,400 kilometres with 192 cable wires. The weight of the rim is reported equal to that of 16 Airbus A380 superjumbos. In addition, the construction of the wheel took around 9,000 tons of steel – which is 25% more compared to the amount of iron that was used for the Paris’ Eiffel Tower.
