DOTr set to publish bidding guidelines for Bulacan airport project

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is eyeing to publish in April the guidelines for a Swiss challenge for the proposed Bulacan airport.

A Swiss challenge is a type of bidding process required for unsolicited project proposals.

DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation Manuel Tamayo said: “As of January, nasa DOTr yung documents. Inaayos na ang terms of reference for the Swiss challenge.”

If there’s no other bidder to challenge SMC’s P735.6-billion airport proposal after 60 days of the publication of the terms, then the project will be awarded to SMC, as per Tamayo.

The airport is deemed to be the largest airport in the world according to SMC president Ramon Ang.

The business tycoon underscored that the airport will help boost the country’s employment and tourism.

“It will have six parallel runways good for 200 million passengers equipped with mass transit. It will create 40 million jobs and bring in 20 million foreign tourists a year. A comparable country like Thailand with a population of 100 million brought in 30 million tourists,” Ang said.
