OFWS CATCHING FLIGHT: 5 dead, 10 injured as van flips over NLEX viaduct

At least five people were killed while 10 others were seriously injured after a van carrying mostly overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) flipped over while plying on northbound viaduct of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Apalit, Pampanga around noon Saturday, March 23.

In a report, Apalit Police Lt. Col. Elmer Decena said 15 people were on board the van at the time of the incident.

When the van flipped, eight of them were thrown out of the vehicle and plunged into a residential area in Barangay Tabuyuc in Apalit town, he said.

Thirteen of the passengers were OFWs who were about to catch their flights at the Clark International Airport bound for the Middle East.

Initial investigation showed that most of the passengers were asleep while traveling to the airport, when the tire of the van blew out, causing the vehicle to flip and roll over the lanes of the NLEX viaduct.
