The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said it had lowered mobile phone plans’ cancellation cost.
Instead of paying one month’s fee multiplied by the number of months remaining in the contract, users will now only have to pay a month’s fee, the TRA said in a statement.
Mohammad Al Ramsi, regulatory affairs director said the change was “in response to the complaints of some customers since the previous provisions forced customers to commit to using the service until the end of the contract, despite their unwillingness to do so sometimes.”
The adjustment applies to contracts signed after the issuance of the order
The TRA reportedly said it was mulling over introducing the same arrangement to other services’ contracts such as Internet and television contracts, both of which fall under the purview of the TRA.
But while changes have yet to be made on the other service contracts, the TRA will monitor compliance of telecom players.
