UAE halts Boeing 737 MAX jet over safety concerns

The United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has suspended the operations of all Boeing 737 MAX models in UAE airspace.

Citing a GCAA statement, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the ban served a precaution for the agency, bringing to 14 the total number of countries that have stopped flights for the said model.

The move comes after the crash of Boeing737Max jets over the past six months.

The first one involved a similar Indonesian Lion Air jet that plunged into the ocean in October 2018, killing 189. The second and most recent happened Sunday killing 157 on an Ethiopian Airlines plane flight.

GCAA will “continue monitoring and re-assessing the situation as more information is obtained about the accident,” it said.

Flydubai is the lone UAE airline operating the MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircrafts.
