The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Saturday released a statement, denying reports that the Cavita priest who was nabbed for using methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in Cavite last Thursday is one of their members.
Further, CBCP said that Bishop Richard Alcantara of the Sacred Order of St. Michael Archangel is a priest of the Catholic Church.
Alcantara was caught red-handed by the members of the Philippine National Police in Cavite.
Bacoor PNP Chief Superintendent Vicente Cabatingan was quoted by Philstar, saying, “It took us several months to collar him because we wanted to catch him in flagrante delicto or in the act of committing the crime and have hard evidence to stand in court. We have a video of him sniffing shabu.”
Alcantara claimed that he started the habit of sniffing shabu two years ago when he was conducting research on the government’s war against drugs.
