UAE amnesty program extended by another month

The amnesty program offered by the UAE government for expats with overstaying and absconding cases has been extended by another month.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Dallal, spokesperson at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, the amnesty program has been extended until December 31 to give chance to expats who have yet to apply for the program, reported Gulf News.

Al Dallal said that the extension was announced following the directives of  President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

This is the second time that the program has been extended. The program, which began on August 1, was supposed to end on October 31 before it was extended to December 1.

Under the program, expats, including OFWs, with overstaying and absconding cases will be given the opportunity to return home or have their status changed by paying for a minimal fee.

Latest data from the Philippine government states that as of November 12, the number of Filipino amnesty grantees who have arrived in the country has risen to 2,481.

The latest batch of OFW amnesty grantees arrived on November 24 and they were given transportation allowance which was used for their traveling expenses to their respective provinces. All of them also received Php5,000 financial assistance from the government.
