DICT: Internet speed in PH to become as fast as Singapore thru 3rd telco

With the naming of the provisional third telco in the Philippines, the Internet speed in the country is expected to become as fast as countries like Singapore, a Cabinet official said on Thursday, November 8.

In an interview with DZMM, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) officer in charge Eliseo Rio said that telco Mislatel, a joint venture between China Telecom and Davao tycoon Dennis Uy, promised internet speeds of at least 27 mbps in its first year of operations in the country and 55 mbps in its second year.

With the promised internet speeds, Rio said that the internet speed in the country will be similar to Singapore’s internet speeds.

“Kung yan ay magawa nila ay katumbas na tayo ng Singapore sa speed na yan,” Rio said.

Rio said that if Mislatel would fail to meet its promises, the company will be given a six-month ultimatum or else the company will be forfeiting the P14-billion performance bond which will be collected by the government.

Mislatel is expected to begin accepting subscribers by mid-2019,

Mislatel on Wednesday, November 7, was selected as the country’s third telco player that would go against PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom.
