Two Filipino waiters have been accused of attempting to kill their compatriot at a flat in Al Muraqqabat, Dubai.
The Dubai Court of First Instance heard the case on Sunday, October 28, reported Gulf News.
The victim, a Filipino, sustained stabbed wounds in his shoulder and belly after one of the assailants attacked him with a knife.
As per the testimony of the victim’s three friends, they were about to leave their friends flat at 4a.m., when the two suspects cornered and assaulted them in the elevator.
One of his friends told the court: “I fought with the suspects and they assaulted me because they had stalked and harassed my girlfriend at the elevator.”
They all went back to their friend’s flat and told him about the incident. He accompanied them down the building to ask about what happened, but he was stabbed by the two suspects. He was rushed to the nearest hospital.
The Filipino waiters pleaded not guilty. One of them told the court: “I acted in self-defence. He attacked me first and I defended myself.”
Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal will hand out a judgement on November 13.
