The four magnetic lifters that were found empty at a warehouse in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite in August could have contained P11 billion worth of shabu, as per the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
In an interview with radio DZMM, PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said that they were able to re-weigh the lifters. The discrepancy in the initial reading processed and approved by the Customs and the result of the new weigh in was very significant.
“Nagconduct ang PDEA ng re-weighing. Isinakay namin iyung 4 na magnetic lifter sa isang container van na the same weight, pagkatapos isinakay namin doon sa original na truck na pinagsakyan.
“Ikinumpara namin doon sa timbang na originally nakalagay sa bill of reading, iyung gross at net weight n’ya.
“Ang discrepancy ng reading is 1,618.8 kilos… So ang equivalent noon is about P11 billion,” he was quoted as saying.
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, is under fire amidst the issue of controversial lifters, after admitting during a Senate inquiry that the lifter may have contained drugs.
It can be recalled that the Bureau of Customs approved the shipment of the lifters denied that they contain illegal drugs.
