WATCH: PH’s first eco-airport almost complete

The country’s first-eco airport is almost complete, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.

Currently 95.16 percent complete, the Bohol Panglao Airport is also dubbed as the “Green Gateway to the World”.

CAAP said that as a part of the airport’s brand, solar panels have been installed on the roof of the terminal which will provide 30 percent of the electrical needs of the airport. A Sewage Treatment Plant is also being built at the airport and is expected to be completed on October 18.

Meanwhile, the runway at the airport could accommodate seven aircrafts at a time, including large planes for international flights.

Earlier, transportation secretary Arthur Tugade called to fast-track the construction time to 24 hours a week cut the target opening by three years.

The Panglao airport will be the country’s first eco-airport. Among the features of the airport are natural ventilation and solar panels.

“Everyone should be excited about Panglao airport. I am very excited. This is the kind of airport that we should be building, an airport that has regard for the environment and the future generations,” Tugade said in a statement.

The completion of the airport is expected to boost tourism in Bohol with its capacity of two million passengers per year.
