Consulate: More than 115,000 OFWs registered as overseas voters in Dubai

More than 115,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Dubai registered as overseas voters for the 2019 midterm elections in the Philippines.

In a post shared by Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes, he said that more than 115,000 OFWs in the emirate were able to successfully register as overseas voters for the overseas absentee voting (OAV) which will run from April 13 to May 13.

From December 1, 2016 until September 30, 2018, OFWs were allowed to register themselves as overseas voters to be eligible to vote for next year’s election.

The Commission on Election (COMELEC), however, said that there will be no more extension for the registration period of overseas voters.

During the registration period, thousands of OFWs, including those in UAE, visited the embassies and consulates to become eligible to vote.

Those whose application was approved will be able to vote for the senatorial seats and one party list representative.
