The UAE’s Federal Tax Authority announced that the Tourist Refund Scheme, which will enable tourists to refund VAT on purchases made at participating retailers through designated refund outlets, will begin in November 2018.
The FTA has also chosen international company Planet as its exclusive tax refund operator for the VAT refund scheme, reported Khaleej Times.
Retailers and tax consultancies have also been invited by the FTA and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to attend the first briefing on how to register for the tourist refund scheme which will be held on September 11 in Abu Dhabi and September 12 in Dubai.
With the refund system, non-resident tourists may refund VAT on purchases made at participating retailers through designated refund outlets, provided that such goods are not exempt from the tax system.
