‘Person of interest’ in OFW’s death arrested in Saudi

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, August 22, said the Saudi authorities arrested the ‘person of interest’ believed to be connected to the death of the overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The unnamed ‘person of interest’ was caught in a CCTV footage as the last person seen with the OFW before her eventual death.

“Consul General Edgar Badajos said authorities are expected to give an update on their investigation and provide the results of the autopsy on the remains of the Filipina worker when the Eid holidays end next week,” DFA spokesperson Elmer Cato said.

DFA said the details on the OFW’s death and the date of her remains’ repatriation to the Philippines will be released once authorities release an autopsy report.

Earlier, Badajos reported the death of the unnamed 52-year-old OFW who had been working as a domestic helper in the Gulf state since 2007.

The OFW went missing three days before her body was found. Badajos said the Consulate is still coordinating with the authorities regarding the cause of death of the Filipina.

“We are saddened to learn about the passing under still unknown circumstances of one of our kababayan,” Consul General Edgar Badajos said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) assured to extend necessary help to the family of the OFW.
